En la selva donde el tiempo es cualquier cosa, dos pelotones de soldados al mando del Mayor Clauss y Héctor, comparten campamento y esperan al terminar una misión, para así regresar pronto a casa, pero los días no pasan. El encierro, la rutina, la constante sensación de peligro, las sombras entre los árboles y hasta la supuesta presencia del enemigo acechando al otro lado del río hacen evidente los delirios de los soldados, que se debaten entre un encierro en la intemperie y la libertad de sus pensamientos, que los llevan tan lejos como su imaginación lo permite. La obra es un relato de misterio en el que una figura atemorizante, omnipotente, se dedica a observar a los personajes y al espectador para intimidarnos solo con su sombra. Y ese temor se expresa poéticamente, a través de las paradojas, esas antítesis de la muerte y de la vida que enfrentan al humano a las encrucijadas más importantes de su existencia: la despedida del pasado, la rivalidad por el amor, el recuerdo del ausente y el momento de seguir adelante.
